The Challenge

A digital-transformation initiative under BP's 2016 digitalization push aimed to replace manual, Word-based inspection reporting with a standardized process. Despite strong project management and client relationships, it stalled after 18 months — undermined by team misalignment, shifting requirements, unclear scope, and development costs the client hadn't agreed to cover.

The Approach

We ran a ground-up reset before touching the build:

  • Met separately with operations, developers, sales, and the COO to surface competing priorities and communication breakdowns
  • Diagnosed the real problem as misalignment, not technical failure
  • Set a “no more redesigns until we fix the foundation” mandate to rebuild trust between DiversiTech and BP
The Solution

We delivered three components in 60 days, reusing existing tools so no new licensing was required:

  • Digitized Report Form — a digital reporting interface tied to a relational database
  • Data Management & Governance System — a structured database with industry-specific categories and a complex backend behind a simple front end
  • Value Tracking Mechanism — a way for DiversiTech and BP to quantify the value of third-party inspection work and validate data against client audits
The Outcome
  • Full solution delivered in 60 days (vs. 18 months of no delivery)
  • Fragmented templates replaced with one standardized reporting format
  • Improved scalability via a modular backend, without scope creep
